Traceability is a chain of evidence.
For an ISCC EU certified UCO procurement requirement, the evidence needs to support the operators, material and transaction concerned. RED II / RED III alignment is assessed against the applicable rules, not inferred from a supplier's marketing language.
Operator and certificate verification
Identify the legal entity on each relevant certificate, its scope, validity and status. Confirm that the proposed material and activity are covered. A supplier's certificate does not automatically certify a separate trader. The relevant trader-without-storage scope must also be verified where required.
Mass balance in the physical chain
Sustainability characteristics must remain linked to material movements and quantities through the applicable chain-of-custody system. Physical supply-chain operations maintain the relevant mass balance records. A trader without storage does not operate a storage site's mass balance or create independent sustainability claims disconnected from physical material.
Sustainability declarations and PoS
Review the applicable Sustainability Declaration or Proof of Sustainability for material description, origin, quantities, transaction dates, counterparties and GHG information. The required document form depends on the supply-chain stage and certification framework. Reconcile records with the commercial and shipping file.
Union Database checks
The responsible economic operators must assess applicable UDB registration and transaction-recording obligations. Confirm the relevant records and investigate discrepancies between volumes, counterparties and sustainability documentation. UDB entries are part of the evidence trail; they do not replace valid certification or independent quality checks.
