UCO traceability: ISCC evidence and the Union Database

Organise origin, operator, certificate and transaction evidence for human review of a UCO sustainability requirement.

Direct answer

UCO traceability links origin, operators, quantities and transactions. Where ISCC evidence or Union Database records are required, verify the applicable scope and current requirements for the actual chain. A certificate logo or a quality analysis does not establish shipment eligibility.

Define the requirement before checking documents

Ask the buyer which intended use, jurisdiction and scheme apply. ISCC is not a universal requirement for every UCO transaction. Avoid assuming that one scheme document answers every buyer or regulatory requirement.

Use current system documents rather than a copied checklist with an unknown version. The sources below provide primary starting points; the responsible compliance reviewer must determine applicability to the transaction.

Verify operator evidence separately from the lot

Check the relevant operator in the scheme’s certificate register and reconcile identity, scope and status with the role performed. A register entry alone does not prove the quantity, origin or quality of an offered cargo.

Link origin and transfer records to the lot and keep the required transaction evidence together. Resolve mismatched company names, missing quantities or inconsistent references before relying on the file.

Identify who maintains database records

The European Commission describes the Union Database as a traceability framework for relevant fuel chains. Determine which operators and records are involved for the actual transaction with the responsible reviewer.

This guide does not confirm Turco & Co certification or database registration and does not decide regulatory eligibility. Commercial, environmental and compliance claims require documented evidence and human validation.

  • Buyer requirement and intended use recorded
  • Current scheme documents identified
  • Operator status and scope checked
  • Lot and transaction evidence linked
  • Responsible compliance reviewer signs off

Buyer questions

Does an ISCC logo prove that a shipment is sustainable?

No. Verify the operator, certificate scope, status and the required transaction evidence for the actual chain.

Does a COA prove Union Database compliance?

No. Quality analysis does not replace operator, traceability or transaction records required by the applicable framework.

Sources and evidence

Primary references support the stated technical definitions. Procurement checklists are editorial guidance, not evidence of a specific lot, shipment or certification.

Confirm laboratory methods, commercial terms and applicable requirements with the buyer and qualified advisers before contracting. No guide establishes stock availability or company certification.
