Use this glossary to distinguish material identity, quality measurements, trade documents and fuel applications. Each definition connects to a guide for the buying or selling decision.

UCO — used cooking oil

Oil that has already been used for cooking. It is a feedstock description, not a finished-fuel specification or proof of sustainability eligibility.

FFA — free fatty acids

An acidity measurement reported on a stated calculation basis. An FFA percentage needs its reference fatty acid and method to be compared with another result.

Acid value

An acidity measure with its own unit and reporting basis. It is not numerically interchangeable with an FFA percentage without the agreed conversion basis.

MIV — moisture, impurities and volatiles

A commercial combined quality expression. The contract must define included components, analytical methods and how the combined result is calculated.

COA — certificate of analysis

A report of analytical results for an identified sample. Confirm its lot reference, sample date, laboratory, units and methods; it does not establish collection origin.

A description of indicative or proposed specifications. A TDS is not a measurement of the offered lot and does not replace a COA.

RFQ — request for quotation

A buyer's request for a commercial price offer against a defined requirement. Quantity, acceptance criteria, delivery place and required documents make responses comparable.

Incoterms — delivery rules

ICC rules used to allocate specified delivery obligations, costs and risks. State the selected rule and named place; the sales contract still needs payment and quality terms.

FOB — free on board

A rule for sea or inland-waterway transport with delivery on board at the named shipment port. Confirm suitability for the actual transport and loading arrangement.

FCA — free carrier

A delivery rule using a named place where the seller delivers to the nominated carrier or other person under the rule. Specify the precise location and loading responsibilities.

CIF — cost, insurance and freight

A sea or inland-waterway rule involving seller-arranged freight and insurance to the named destination port. Paying those costs does not make risk transfer occur at destination.

A certification system whose applicable documents, operator status and scope must be checked against the buyer's requirement. A logo does not prove shipment eligibility.

A methyl-ester biodiesel derived from UCO. The incoming oil and finished biodiesel require different acceptance specifications.

A term associated with renewable diesel produced through hydrotreating lipid feedstocks. Despite the name, eligible feedstocks are not limited to virgin vegetable oil.

The quantity basis remaining after the assumed loss or unaccepted material in a cost comparison. It is an arithmetic assumption until actual measurement and contract acceptance establish it.
